No Criminal Charges for Sunrise Cop Accused of Slashing Tires

Community service for cop accused of slashing tires at gas station

Prosecutors are dropping criminal charges against a South Florida police officer who had been accused of slashing tires at a gas station.

The South Florida SunSentinel reports that 45-year-old Sunrise officer Milton Plante will instead do community service, pay more than $800 in restitution in a three-month diversion program. He was not required to admit wrongdoing.

Plante still faces an internal police investigation stemming from the Sept. 13 incident. He was arrested after witnesses said they saw Plante slash a gas station attendant's tires. Plante was off-duty at the time.

Felony charges were previously dropped when it became clear a witness falsely claimed he saw Plante waving a knife at two men.

Plante's attorney says he would have been acquitted if the case went to trial.
