South Florida Occupy Protesters Set For Saturday Demonstrations

Demonstrations in Miami and Fort Lauderdale expected as Occupy Wall Street movement spreads south

What started near New York City's Wall Street has grown nationwide with Occupy demonstrations and rallies in nearly 200 cities.

Fed up South Floridians are also part of the protests.  Occupy Miami will gather Saturday at Bayfront Park from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., and Occupy Fort Lauderdale at Fort Lauderdale's federal courthouse at 11 a.m.

"The big banks and financial institutions caused this crisis that we're going through and they are getting off scott free," said Miami Springs resident Scott Brinkman.

Brinkman's front yard sported signs promoting Occupy Miami's protest, where a few hundred people are expected to show up.

While some protests in other cities have turned violent, Brinkman hopes South Florida protests don't. He said he just wants to spread the message, "Down with Wall Street. Up with Main Street."

"We are the 99 percent," he said. "It's the one percent that controls the money in this country."
