Katie Couric said she doesn't buy into the Twitter phenomenon, "Who gives a rat's ass if I make a tuna sandwich?"

Katie Couricisn't going to be engaging in a Twitter war with Ashton Kutcher anytime soon.

The ex-"Today" show host and current CBS News anchor said that she isn't a fan of the Twitter phenomenon, calling the Web site where users post moment-by-moment live updates "inane" and "bizarre."

"I don't think anybody gives a rat's ass whether I am about to eat a tuna sandwich," Couric told an audience Wednesday as she spoke at the Walter Cronkite Awards on the University of Southern California campus.

"I don't know why anybody would want to read it, much less why I would want to write it," Variety magazine reported Couric said.

Couric has a Twitter, but said she "tweets" "very selectively."

ABC News host George Stephanopolous, who was also on hand for the event, disagreed with Couric, saying that Twitter has made his life easier both professionally and personally.

"It is a way for you to have a better sense of what is going on out there in the country," he said.

Couric also slammed bloggers, saying that the information that ends up on individually-manned blog sites is often factually incorrect and ignorant.

"I think some of that is really damaging to civil discourse and our ability to have a civil conversation about certain issues," Couric said.
