This video provided by Florida International University answers commonly asked questions about the novel coronavirus with Dr. Aileen Marty, an infectious disease doctor.

With COVID-19 testing sites up and running in parts of Broward and Miami-Dade County, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in South Florida is expected to continue to increase in the coming days and weeks.

The Florida Department of Health is keeping track of the numbers on its website, releasing the number of coronavirus cases by county and city as new data comes in.

Miami continues to lead the state in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases.

"Note that city is not always received as part of the initial notification and may be missing while the case is being investigated," the department warned, adding that data is provisional and subject to change.

Dr. Aileen Marty, an infectious disease expert from Florida International University, also warned that the accuracy of the data depends on how thoroughly testing is being done in pertinent areas.

"The cities and counties that are testing are capturing better data," Dr. Marty said.

"However, we are still not doing the testing to maximum efficiency or effectiveness anywhere in the USA. If they did, they would be testing all patients regardless of their level of symptoms, and all contacts of all test-positive patients."

The federally-supported testing sites that have been set up in South Florida, including one at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens and another in CB Park in Pembroke Pines, have limited testing to first responders, people over 65 and people showing symptoms.
