1 Killed, 2 Hurt in Hollywood Scaffolding Collapse Monday Afternoon

Another accident involving construction scaffolding in South Florida has claimed the life of one person and sent another to the hospital.

Fire rescue crews responded to the Hyde Resorts and Residence off Ocean Drive in Hollywood around 1:30 p.m. Monday after scaffolding collapsed 40 feet from the side of the building as the people were painting a large-scale mural on the building.

Two people were taken to the hospital, where one was pronounced dead while the other remained in critical condition. Another person held in place by their harnesses and safely brought to the ground by crews.

The third person was treated and released for minor injuries at the scene.

"We heard a lot of commotion, someone was in distress on the south side of the building," worker Antwan Green said. "We saw two guys dangling and one had already fell to his death."

Investigators from Hollywood Police, Fire Inspectors and OSHA are on the scene to determine what caused the collapse.

"Tragically, a section of scaffolding at Hyde Resort & Residences Hollywood fell today. Security and safety are, and always have been, a priority at every one of our construction sites and an internal investigation of today’s events is underway," Eric Fordin, vice president of 4111 South Ocean Drive, LLC., said in a statement. "We are deeply concerned and send heart-felt thoughts to the individuals involved and their families."
