2 Tampa Men Accused of Shoplifting $26K from Stores in Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana and Florida

Two Tampa men are in the Jackson County, Mississippi jail accused of shoplifting goods from Ross department stores in Gulfport and D'Iberville.

Sheriff Mike Ezell says the men are also accused of shoplifting at Ross stores in Texas, Louisiana and Florida.

Ezell tells The Sun Herald 26-year-old Lauro Mesa and 27-year-old Alfredo Cruz-Gomez, both of Tampa, Florida, were arrested Monday during a traffic stop on Interstate 10. The sheriff says a search of the men's car led to the recovery of electronics and various clothing, purses, shoes, belts and perfumes. The items were valued at $26,442 and still had price tags on them.

Both men remain in jail pending a bond hearing.

Online jail records do not list attorneys for the men.
