4 People Injured After Chaotic Scene at Orlando Mall When Balloon Popping Mistaken for Gun Shots

A loud popping sound caused chaos at a mall near Orlando – and it was all caused by balloons.

The incident took place at the Florida Mall around 3:30 PM Thursday. Some inside thought that the sounds, which came from a test taking place inside a new restaurant owned by former *NSYNC member Joey Fatone, was gunfire.

The test, which according to NBC affiliate WESH-TV consisted of six large balloons being popped in a row followed by a fire alarm, was announced over the intercom system at the mall – however, many say they didn’t hear it over the sound of the noises.

Four people suffered minor injuries as a result of people rushing to get out of the mall.

The mall remained open after the incident, which came over two months after the mass shooting inside the Pulse nightclub in Orlando that killed 49 people.
