A 50-year-old woman was hospitalized after being bitten by a shark Sunday afternoon in Vero Beach.
According to WPTV, Lifeguards at Humiston Park in Vero Beach responded 150 yards north of the park to Costa d’Este Resort to reports of a shark bite around 12:00 p.m.
Lifeguards say the woman reported the shark bit then released her. The woman was swimming 100 yards off the beach when she was bitten by a shark.
Lifeguards performed first aid until Indian River Fire Rescue arrived and transported the woman.
The woman was treated for puncture wounds on her leg and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
