60 Dogs Seized From Puppy Mill Raid in Southwest Florida

Sixty dogs were seized from a southwest Florida woman after a raid at a Great Dane puppy mill.

Debora Rivera, 50, of Arcadia was arrested July 10 after DeSoto County authorities visited to check on the dogs on her property.

According to an arrest report, investigators found fleas, ticks, open wounds and other health problems on many of the dogs Rivera released into her front yard.

The Sarasota Herald Tribune reports that Rivera told investigators that she had unsuccessfully tried medication on the dogs and she feared using more would harm the puppies.

A search warrant was executed and 60 dogs were seized from the home. Rivera was charged with aggravated animal neglect.

She was released on $1,000 bond. Jail records didn't show whether she had an attorney.
