911 Calls Released in Subway Employee Shootings

Suspect still at large in shooting of two employees at Sunrise Boulevard Subway

The 911 calls in the attempted robbery at a Sunrise Boulevard Subway that left two employees shot were released by police Friday.

The shooting happened last Wednesday night at the sandwich shop at 2863 W. Sunrise Boulevard in unincorporated Broward County, police said.

Police say the gunman asked two workers for a $2 sandwich, and when they told him they didn't have $2 sandwiches, he demanded cash. Then he shot them for no apparent reason and fled the scene without taking anything, police said.

Employees Sameer Farooq, 31, and Fawaz Farid, 17, were both hit by bullets. The frightening shooting was captured on the restaurant's surveillance camera.

In the first 911 call, a man at a tattoo shop in the same shopping plaza where the Subway is tells the operator one of the employees came to the shop for help.

"They just came running over here, we're at the tattoo shop, he just asked us to call 911," the man says. He's bleeding right now in the shop, he's saying that both of them were shot, the two employees from Subway."

Both Farooq and Farid were rushed to Broward General Medical Center. Farid was later released but Farooq was still hospitalized earlier this week.

The suspect is still at large and the Broward Sheriff's Office is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The suspect is described as a black male, mid 20s to early 30s about 5-foot-6 and 180 pounds.
