Cop's Widow Suing Ford for Fiery Crash

Claims faulty gas line led to fatal crash of FHP officer in Miami

The widow of a Florida Highway Patrol officer killed in a fiery crash is suing Ford Motor Co. over allegedly faulty gas tanks.

Roberta Ambroise claims in the lawsuit filed in Miami this week that gas tanks on the Ford Crown Victoria are poorly designed and prone to rupture when rear-ended in a crash.

Her husband, 35-year-old Patrick Ambroise, died in May after his parked FHP cruiser was hit from behind on Florida's Turnpike near Miami by a Lexus. The driver and owner of the Lexus are also named in the lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages.

A Ford spokeswoman declined comment Thursday, saying the company had not seen the lawsuit.
