Drinking Dad Drives Over Son, Goes About Business

Central Florida father doesn't report running over 5-year-old

Jason Carter won't be receiving one of those "World's Greatest Dad" coffee mugs anytime soon.

The Central Florida dad was arrested Thursday after he allegedly ran over his son's leg with a truck while driving the kid to school and didn't report it.

Oh yeah, he'd been drinking, too.

The Poinciana man was dropping his 5-year-old son off at the school bus stop when the incident happened. The youngster allegedly jumped out of the truck before Carter had stopped.

Osceola County Sheriff's Deputies said Carter told them the boy was lying on the ground but looked alright and wasn't crying so he put him on the bus. He also said he'd called the school to tell them his son may have hurt his knee and to call him if the injury got worse.

The boy told the school nurse he'd been run over by his dad, and a doctor found tire tread marks on his thigh.

Carter, 35, was arrested on child neglect charges. He reportedly told police he'd been drinking before he gave his kid a ride to the bus stop.
