Florida's education commissioner is recommending passing scores for the state's new high-stakes test.
Education Commissioner Pam Stewart on Monday released recommendations on what students should earn on tests in reading, math as well as end-of-course exams given in Algebra and Geometry.
The State Board of Education is expected to vote on the recommendations in January. The results will be used to assign school grades.
Several state board members earlier this month had recommended tougher passing scores.
Stewart, however, recommended scores for most grades that would guarantee that a majority would receive a passing grade on the tests. If Stewart's recommendations are adopted it would mean about 51 percent of 10th graders would pass the test needed for graduation.
This year was the first year that Florida used a new high-stakes test that is linked to standards largely based on Common Core.
