Driver Who Crashed Into Fence Was Murdered: Fort Lauderdale Police

Tobias Kelly, 35, of Sunrise was pronounced dead at the hospital

Fort Lauderdale Police are investigating what they called the murder of a 35-year-old Sunrise man who they say may have crashed his car into a fence because of injuries from an attack somewhere else.

Police responded at about 6 a.m. Saturday to the 1800 block of NE 15th Avenue after getting a call about a vehicle crashing into a fence, Fort Lauderdale Police spokesman Detective Travis Mandell said in a statement.

When they arrived, they found Tobias Kelly of Sunrise, who was seriously hurt, but who had injuries “not consistent solely with that of a car crash,” Mandell said.

Kelly was taken to Broward General Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, Mandell said.

Police said the homicide took place "sometime before 6 a.m."

Detectives said they believe that Kelly was possibly attacked somewhere else and then crashed his car into the fence due to his injuries. His injuries and his cause of death remain under investigation.

Investigators urge anyone with information on the murder, or on Kelly’s whereabouts beforehand, to call Detective William DeJesus at 954-828-5366 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
