Human Remains Found in Ft. Lauderdale: Police

Human remains were discovered in a wooded area in Fort Lauderdale overnight Wednesday, Fort Lauderdale Police said.

A botanist discovered the bones around 7 p.m. in the 2100 block of Northwest 62nd Street. The botanist was conducting research on trees in the heavily wooded area, police say.

Police are releasing few details, but have confirmed that the bones are of an adult male.

The area is known to be frequented by homeless people, but police have not confirmed that the bones belong to a homeless person.

Police do not suspect foul play, but said they cannot rule it out completely at this time. Forensics investigators are working to determine how and when the man died.

Detectives found a light blue button down shirt and Saucony sneakers at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
