Across South Florida, the Labor Day holiday weekend means extra time for many to enjoy time with friends and family – and forget about work.
The extra day provides another chance to experience activities across the area for both adults and the entire family. You can always head to the beach, but here’s a list of some of the other things to do throughout South Florida this weekend.
Miami-Dade County
Coral Gables Canoe Tour
Explore the history of Coral Gables in this leisurely canoe paddle through the City Beautiful. This guided tour will teach you all about the man-made waterway’s delightful blend of unique vistas, abundant wildlife, and historic landmarks. Trip meets at the A.D. Barnes Park Nature Center; bring plenty of drinking water, closed-toe shoes and sun protection. $30/person.
Up Past Bedtime Movie (Barnacle State Park in Coconut Grove) Sunday 8:00 PM
Snuggle up with a blanket and popcorn on the front lawn for a family-friendly film. Flashlights and modest pajamas are encouraged. No pets, please. Admission is $5 for ages 6 and up, $3 for children ages 2 to 5, and free for children under 2.

7th Annual Key West Brewfest (Through Monday)
More than 150 beers and micro-brews are on tap at this "tasty" annual event that benefits the charitable efforts of the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club of the Conch Republic. Events from beer dinners, beer brunches, happy hour parties, pool parties, late-night parties, seminars and the Signature Tasting Festival Event are some of the offered activities.
Heroes Salute Tribute Weekend (Marathon) (Through Monday)
Each fall, Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key hosts an annual Heroes Salute program to honor military, fire and rescue, law enforcement and medical personnel; a special Labor Day Weekend event is planned to include an All-American barbecue, heroes tribute, country music concert and fireworks show.
