Man Accused of Kidnapping, Raping Co-Worker in Fort Lauderdale

A Fort Lauderdale gym worker accused of kidnapping and raping a female co-worker was ordered held without bond Friday.

Keith Karlsberg, 46, was arrested on kidnapping and sexual battery charges Thursday, according to Fort Lauderdale Police.

Karlsberg was denied bond during his court appearance Friday, where his attorney said he is innocent.

"The video evidence the state has in this case we believe is a mischaracterization of the facts and that will be worn out as the case progresses," attorney Alex Strassman said.

According to the arrest report Karlsberg and the victim, who both work at an LA Fitness, were with a group of friends at a bar. The victim, who was intoxicated, left with Karlsberg as friends tried to stop her, the report said.

That's when Karlsberg got physical, forcing the witnesses to let her be, authorities said.

Video from a hotel shows Karlsberg, a father of two, dragging the alleged victim into a hotel elevator, authorities said. He admitted to having sex with her several times, saying it was consensual, authorities said.
