Worker Kills Alleged Robber Following Incident Inside Sunrise Wal-Mart Parking Lot

A worker shot and killed an armed man who tried to rob him outside a Sunrise Wal-Mart early Wednesday, police said.

According to investigators, Ervin Jones, an employee at the Wal-Mart off University Drive and Oakland Park Boulevard, was walking to his car around 3:30 a.m. when he was confronted by 28-year-old Terrence Pearson, who had a gun.

The two men exchanged words before Jones pulled out his own gun and opened fire, killing Pearson. Jones was not hurt and does have a concealed weapons permit, police said.

No charges have been filed, but the case is being sent to the State Attorney's Office.
