Davie Police are investigating after a man was shot to death at the front door of his apartment in Davie Wednesday morning.

The homicide happened at the apartment complex at 10700 Cameron Court around 1:20 a.m.

According to Davie Police, the victim, Brian Creighton, 26, heard a knock at the door of his third-floor apartment claiming to be a pizza delivery man.

"He opened the door, was greeted by something he didn't like," said Captain Dale Engle of Davie Police. "It appears he attempted to shut the door and was shot through the door."

The gunman hit Creighton in the chest, killing him on the spot.

"We don't know how many times the weapon was fired, but it was fired through the door," Captain Engle said.

A friend of Creighton's said: "Brian Creighton was one of the kindest people you'll ever want to meet. He had class, elegance and was a true man of chivalry. He will be forever loved and missed by his family and friends. RIP Lil B."

Davie Police said they don't believe anyone witnessed the shooting, but someone did hear it. That person was inside Creighton's apartment when he was killed.

Detectives are looking for security cameras around the complex that may offer a clue. Police don't believe the shooting was a random act.
