Miami Lawyer Hilarie Bass Becomes President-Elect of American Bar Association

A prominent Miami attorney is going to become president of the American Bar Association.

Hilarie Bass, co-president of the law firm Greenberg Traurig, on Tuesday became president-elect of the national organization that represents the legal profession. Bass will assume the role of president in August 2017. She will be the sixth Floridian to hold the prestigious post.

Bass, who has her law degree from the University of Miami, led the effort to overturn Florida's ban on gay adoption, and she represented clients who sued over Chinese drywall. Bass is also a member of the University of Miami Board of Trustees.

Bass said during the ABA's annual meeting in San Francisco that she wants the group to help push strategies to ensure that Americans believe that the justice system treats people equally regardless of color, gender, religion or income inequality.
