Miami Woman Wins Fight to Keep Pot Belly Pigs

Pair of hogs can stay on Redlands farm: officials

A Miami woman has won her swine struggle after officials said she can keep her pot belly pigs at her home.

Marcia Fuste has been in a battle to keep pigs Chongi and Sofia since March, when she was fined $500 by Miami-Dade Code Enforcement for keeping the pigs on her Redlands farm.

Fuste was cited after someone anonymously reported the pigs, which were in violation of a zoning ordinance. She was told to get rid of the pigs, but decided to fight.

At a hearing Tuesday, Fuste learned she'll be allowed to keep the hefty hogs under a new ordinance that allows her to keep Chongi and Sofia on her property.

"My pot belly pigs are now legal," Fuste declared after Tuesday's hearing.

Fuste, who has over 20 animals on her acre and a half ranch, says the pigs are no different from dogs or cats.

"My pigs are pets," she said. "They're beautiful."
