New Road Closure Coming This Weekend On Miami Beach

The ongoing traffic problems on Miami Beach will not be getting better this weekend as 17th Street in both directions will be closed between Alton Road and Alton Court.

The closure is allow installation of new drainage structures, pipes, and then to rebuild the roadway. The closure begins at 9 p.m. Sunday and will run through Thursday, May 22.

Detours will be set up to allow drivers who want to continue east or west on 17th Street. Northbound traffic on Alton Road will not be impacted, but southbound traffic will be temporarily places on Alton Road between 17th Street and 16th Street during the repairs.

FDOT gave the following directions about what to expect when driving through the area:
Motorists traveling south on Alton Road who wish to turn west on 17 Street will have to:

  • Continue south on Alton Road
  • Turn west on 16 Street
  • Turn north on West Avenue
  • Turn west on 17 Street

Motorists traveling north on Alton Road who wish to turn west on 17 Street will have to:

  • Turn west on 16 Street
  • Turn north on West Avenue
  • Turn west on 17 Street

Motorists traveling east on 17 Street who wish to continue east will have to:

  • Turn south on West Avenue
  • Turn east on 16 Street
  • Turn north on Alton Road
  • Turn east on 17 Street

Eastbound 17 Street traffic may also use Dade Boulevard. Local traffic access will be maintained along eastbound 17 Street.

Motorists traveling west on 17 Street who wish to continue west onto the Venetian Causeway will have to:

  • Turn north on Alton Road
  • Turn west on Dade Boulevard
  • Continue onto 17 Street

Westbound 17 Street traffic may also:

  • Turn south on Alton Road
  • Turn west on 16 Street
  • Turn north on West Avenue
  • Turn west on 17 Street

Business and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
