North Florida Sheriff Candidate Killed in Crash

Tim Dale Brown Sr., 53, died on U.S. 17 near Palatka Monday night, the FHP said

Authorities say a candidate in a north Florida sheriff's race was killed in a three vehicle crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol says 53-year-old Tim Dale Brown Sr. died in the Monday night crash on U.S. 17 near Palatka.

Putnam County Sheriff's spokesman Hancel Woods says Brown was a father of three who had retired from the agency after serving more than 20 years. Brown — a Republican — was among nine candidates running for Putnam County sheriff.

A vehicle driven by 77-year-old Gloria Adams hit another vehicle, which hit Brown's vehicle. Brown's vehicle flipped. He was pronounced dead at Putnam Community Medical Center. Three others were taken to hospitals.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
