School Bus Driver Fired Following Tampa-Area Crash

Officials say a school bus driver has been cited for careless driving after the vehicle crashed into a pond while carrying 27 elementary students.

The Hillsborough County school district announced Tuesday that 54-year-old driver Lenoir Sainfimin has been fired.

The crash happened Sept. 17 as the bus carried students home from school.

The Tampa Tribune reports the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office used an independent mechanic, who found that mechanical failure wasn't a factor in the crash. Officials also downloaded GPS data from the bus and watched video from a nearby security shack and from the bus.

Officials say the bus was traveling 48 mph in a 35 mph zone.

No one was seriously injured in the crash
