Suspicious Package Delivered to Miami-Dade Democratic Party Office Deemed Safe

A suspicious package that was found Wednesday at the building that houses offices for the Miami-Dade Democratic Party has been deemed safe.

Miami Police officials said officers responded to the CIC Miami building at 1951 Northwest 7th Avenue. Several officers and a bomb squad were at the scene.

U.S. Postal Inspector officials said the package was delivered to the Democratic Party, whose offices are on the 6th floor.

Democratic Party officials later said the package was deemed safe.

"Given the events of last week, we are on high alert at our office and reported to building management, who notified police, after receiving a package from an unrecognized sender. We are grateful for the first responders and police who work so diligently to keep us safe," said Ricky Junquera, Miami-Dade County Democratic Party Vice Chair.

Officials said the package is not related to last week's nationwide mail pipe bomb scare that ended with the arrest of a South Florida man.

No other information was immediately known.
