Tamarac Burglar Jumped Fence, Stole Jewelry: Police

A Tamarac man who jumped a fence to access a neighbor's yard before stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from her home was caught after his leap was caught on surveillance camera.

According to Broward County Sheriff's Office detectives, 21-year-old Javond Hall, of Woodmont, hopped a fence right into Carmen Velez's yard Monday. The feat was captured in surveillance video from a neighbor's home.

When Velez returned home after being gone all day, police say she returned home to smashed windows and a ransacked bedroom. Thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and valuables were stolen from the home.

On Wednesday, deputies arrested Hall in connection with the burglary. A search warrant at Hall's apartment recovered hundreds of pieces of jewelry, passports, credit cards, cell phones, electronics, two handgun magazines, a bag of ammunition and a safe.

Hall was already on felony probation for previous burglary charges at the time of his arrest.

Police say there have been about a dozen burglaries in the Woodmont development in March.

BSO, along with Coral Springs Police, will investigate Hall's possible connection to other burglaries in the area. Additional charges are pending.

It is not known if Hall has hired an attorney.
