Teen Pleads Not Guilty to Gas Station Murder

Eric Ellington is accused of shooting Julian Soler during a failed carjacking

The teen accused of participating in a violent attack against a young couple in Miami Gardens has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

Eric Ellington, 16, did not appear in Miami-Dade court Monday, but his attorney, Andrew Rier, entered the plea to two counts of second-degree murder as the boy's mother, Erica Love, sat in the courtroom.

Prosecutors told the judge they are prosecuting Ellington as an adult.

"We plan to contest these charges to the full extent," Rier said.

Ellington is accused of shooting and killing 23-year-old Julian Soler during a failed carjacking at a Miami Gardens gas station July 25, police said.

Soler's girlfriend, Kennia Duran, 24, was also murdered during the attack.

Surveillance video captured the crime and showed a suspect, who police say is Ellington, drag Soler out of his Ford Mustang Cobra and shoot the man. The suspects did not take the car.

Police said Ellington admitted to the crime to detectives.

No other arrests have been made in the double murder, but police said they are still looking for two other suspects.

Ellington is being held without bond.
