Utility Truck Crashed in “Freak Accident”: Deputies

The driver was transported to Memorial Hospital West with back injuries

A utility truck driving in Cooper City crashed into a hurricane-proof traffic signal and flipped on its side in what police are calling a “freak accident.”

Kenneth Haag, 60, was unknowingly driving the truck with the bucket up when it crashed into the traffic signal, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The force of the collision caused the truck to flip over and bring down two other power polls nearby.

The accident happened at the intersection of SW 90th Avenue and Griffin Road. Authorities said it affected the power supply to homes in the area and shut down traffic for blocks.

Haag was transported to Memorial Hospital West with back injuries. The passenger, 22-year-old Jordan Twist, was uninjured.
