When the Swamp's a-Rockin', Don't Go Knockin'

FWC says stay away from mating gators, crocs

Alligators will be getting down and dirty around South Florida in the coming weeks, and officials are warning folks to steer clear.

As temperatures are rising, so are gator libidos, which means the deadly reptiles can be even more dangerous, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The FWC is advising Floridians to be cautious in bodies of water and especially avoid mating gators and crocs. They say female crocs and gators get aggressive and protective after they lay eggs.

Through their "Living with Alligators" and "Living with Crocodiles" brochures, the FWC recommends keeping pets and children away from water and to swim only in daylight areas and only in designated swimming areas.

Another obvious tip: don't feed them. You might become their next meal.
