Two suspects were arrested and about 400 pot plants were seized after authorities raided two marijuana grow houses in Broward County Thursday.
The operation targeted a home in the 1400 block of Northeast 56th Court in Fort Lauderdale and another in the 4400 block of Northeast 17th Terrace in Oakland Park, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.
Officials said when a SWAT team entered the Fort Lauderdale home, there was some sort of substance leak, and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue units responded to the hazmat call.
Footage showed officers being hosed down at a makeshift decontamination area outside the home. No one was injured and the substance was later determined to be carbon dioxide.
One neighbor said firefighters told him to stay in his home and keep the doors closed.
"It was terrifying for us. The kid was shaken up, the wife was shaken up. Just to see so much activity in the neighborhood, it really gives you concern over what's going on in your neighborhood," Milano Costello said. "It's horrifying, a horrifying situation but I hope we hear the bottom line of what took place over here, and see what's what."
The suspects arrested were identified as 28-year-old Eric Lubin and 33-year-old Brian Delsandro. It's unknown what exact charges the two suspects will face.
The pot plants are worth an estimated $500,000, officials said.
