Investigators are trying to piece together how a slain woman's body ended up dumped next to a lake in Pompano Beach.
Chopper 6 was overhead the crime scene early Tuesday near the industrial area of Blount Road and Northwest 19th Street in Pompano Beach. Crews are gathering evidence as they work to identify who this person was.
Authorities say maintenance workers found an adult African-American woman's body next to the lake around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Dive teams also searching the lake for any personal belongings or evidence.
Homicide detectives are looking into how long this body was here and how she was killed. Officials are not disclosing the injuries on the body or the woman's age at this time.
"In this case we are investigating this as a homicide investigation. This is not a natural death or an accidental death. It is a homicide investigation. We are looking for every possible piece of evidence including anyone who was in the area that may have seen something, heard something or maybe knows the victim and can give us the information that we need," said Gina Carter, Broward Sheriff's Office spokesperson.
Anyone who saw or knows something about this homicide is urged to call Broward Crimestoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Anonymous tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for a reward of up to $3,000. It is now up to the medical examiner to identify this woman and determine the exact cause of death.
