Brothers Accused of Bringing Gun to South Miami Middle School Get Home Detention

Two young brothers accused of bringing a gun to a middle school in South Miami will be on home detention, a judge said Friday.

The brothers, age 13 and 12, appeared in juvenile court a day after they were accused of bringing a gun to South Miami Middle Community School.

Miami-Dade Police officials said one of the boys took the gun out of his backpack and passed it to his brother. Another student reportedly saw that and told administrators. Officials haven't said if the gun was loaded.

The judge said the boys will be released to home detention and must wear ankle bracelets. Their father assured the judge they won't be allowed to leave the home.

Another hearing was set for Thursday in the case.
