BSO Deputy Fired After Video Shows Him Punching Handcuffed Suspect

Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said 26-year-old Deputy Kevin Fanti has been terminated for his actions

A Broward Sheriff's deputy has been fired after video surfaced showing him punching a handcuffed suspect, officials said Friday.

Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said 26-year-old Deputy Kevin Fanti has been terminated for his actions seen in the video from June 26.

Tony said the suspect was at an intake center when Fanti punched him several times. The entire incident was captured on a surveillance camera.

Tony said he was made aware of the video on Thursday and immediately fired Fanti.

"We don't strike individuals in handcuffs and we have to have a better temper," Tony told reporters Friday.

Fanti was hired in April of 2018. The state attorney's office will determine if he'll face charges in the incident, Tony said.

"That's unacceptable and there's no excuse," Tony said.
