Car Stolen With Dog Inside at Lauderdale Lakes Walmart

Authorities are searching for a homeless couple's car that was stolen with their dog inside at a Walmart in Lauderdale Lakes.

Broward Sheriff's Office officials said the elderly couple was sleeping in their 2007 Toyota Corolla outside the Walmart at 3001 North State Road 7 when it was stolen Wednesday.

"They're down on their luck. They're living in their car and somebody comes up while they're sleeping and steals everything they got. They have absolutely nothing," said Det. Mohammad Rezi with BSO.

The couple was approached by a suspect who stole their keys and told them someone in the store had found them. When the couple got out of the car, the suspect took off with the car with the dog inside.

The dog, Lacy, is an 8-year-old Pomeranian, the couple said.

"She's very friendly, very lovable. She'll get attached to you within minutes," said the dog's owner, Shelley.

The car is a 2007 white Toyota Corolla, with bumper stickers and the bumper's paint is worn off.

Shelley said she's not worried about the car, just the dog, "I can always buy more stuff. Whatever's there, I can get another stroller for her. I just want the dog back."

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
