A U.S. Army veteran who recently passed away with no family was honored at his Sarasota funeral on Tuesday.
Legacy Options funeral homes invited the public to attend Edward K. Pearson's service on social media and it went viral.
Hundreds pledged to attend the service.
The Miami Herald reports Pearson served in the Army from 1962 to 1964 before being honorably discharged. He then became an engineer and worked for Marriott Hotel Services Inc.
According to the funeral home, Pearson died Aug. 31 and no one claimed his remains.
