A former student of Everglades High School in Miramar has been arrested for threatening to "shoot up" the school, police said.

Javary Angelo Meriwether, 28, was arrested Sunday on a charge of intimidation-writing or sending a threat to kill or injure, jail records showed.

According to an arrest report, a former classmate contacted police, saying she saw threatening messages on Meriwether's Facebook page.

When detectives contacted Meriwether, he admitted to posting the threatening messages and said he did it because his mother was "stressing him out," the report said. He also said the messages were posted as a joke and he had no intention of carrying out the threat, the report said.

Authorities said no credible threat exists, but they have increased police presence in and around high schools.

Meriwether was being held without bond Monday, jail records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
