Gov. Scott Grants License-Free Fishing to First Responders

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is sending a big 'thank you' to law enforcement and first responders for their work preparing and responding to Hurricane Irma. They have been granted license-free freshwater and saltwater fishing and free passes to state parks for one year.

Gov. Scott made the announcement Thursday, recognizing their life-saving work in the days leading up to the storm and in the aftermath.

"We owe these brave heroes a debt of gratitude, and I am proud to announce this license-free fishing opportunity as a gesture of appreciation and recognition for their service to our state," Gov. Scott said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will accept official first responder identification in lieu of a Florida fishing license through June 30, 2018.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is also offering free day-passes to state parks until October 2018. These passes are also available to utility workers.
