Immigrant Group Fetes Miami Lawyer, Spanish Chef

A Spanish chef and a Cuban-born attorney will get top honors for their work on behalf of the nation's immigrants in South Florida.
 
Greenberg Traurig Executive Chairman Cesar Alvarez and award-winning chef and restaurateur Jose Andres received the 13th annual Keepers of the American Dream Award and will be feted Thursday during a reception at Andres' Miami Beach restaurant The Bazaar.
 
Spanish native Andres owns restaurants around the country, including Jaleo And Zaytinya in Washington, D.C. and has taught at Harvard and George Washington universities.
 
Alvarez left Cuba at age 13 and has long been an advocate for immigrants in the U.S.
 
The awards are given by the National Immigration Forum, whose local host committee includes Jeb Bush Jr., Miami Dade College President Eduardo Padron and former Florida GOP chairman Al Cardenas.
