A 29-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after sending a message to the Monroe County sheriff threatening to shoot deputies in the Florida Keys, officials said.
Sheriff Rick Ramsey received the email from Lowell Wayne Davis III on Saturday, officials said in a news release sent Wednesday.
Detectives filed a warrant for Davis' arrest. He was arrested in New Smyrna Beach in central Florida and charged with making written threats to do bodily harm, officials said,
Investigators said Davis had seven baggies of heroin, several hypodermic needles and two Suboxone strips in his possession when he was arrested. He will face the drug charges in Volusia County, and the threat charge in Monroe County, the email said.

Davis has an arrest record dating to 2015 in Monroe County, officials said.
“I will never tolerate violent threats made against my staff or members of this community," Ramsey said.
Davis is being held on a $50,000 bond. Jail records don't list an attorney for him.
