A man was killed after being struck by a driver along a busy Broward County highway early Wednesday morning – while police captured that driver when he tried to run from the scene.

The crash occurred around 1 a.m. along I-95 northbound just past Oakland Park Boulevard. According to Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alvaro Feola, Aleshandra Favre called a tow truck and her husband Juan Pedro Garcia to the scene after an earlier accident.

After troopers left following an initial investigation and Garcia had driven his wife's car to the other side of the road closer to his vehicle, another car driven by Bradley Ruben crashed into both the victim, his wife’s car and the tow truck.

Garcia was taken to North Broward Hospital, with he later died around 4 a.m. as a result of his injuries.

Ruben, 32, attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was detained by Broward Sheriff's deputies and taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he later was released and placed under arrest and charged with resisting arrest and likely will be charged with leaving the scene of a crash with bodily harm resulting in death.

"We do suspect alcohol played a part," Feola said. "That charge will come at a later time, we do have to do all the investigations, toxicology reports and so on."
