Police are investigating after a 15-year-old was shot in the lobby of the Hilton Miami Downtown hotel early Wednesday.

The incident happened inside the hotel at 1601 Biscayne Boulevard just before 2:30 a.m., Miami Police officials said.

According to police, there was a fight in the hotel's lobby and at some point, the 15-year-old was shot in the arm.

Miami Police spokesman Michael Vega said it appeared one group was having a party at the hotel when a second group showed up uninvited, and that's when the fight broke out between the two groups.

Possible suspects were detained but no arrest has been made so far, Vega said.

"It's too early in the investigation, we have detained approximately five people that we're questioning, we're asking them what happened, but it's still too early to determine what their intention was in going to this party at 2:30 in the morning," Vega said.

Police also confirmed that the teen was in stable condition. His identity hasn't been released.

Footage showed a large police presence at the hotel as authorities investigated the shooting.

NBC6 has reached out to the hotel for comment and was waiting to hear back.

The investigation is ongoing as to what exactly led to the incident.
