Man Killed in 3-Car Shootout, Car Goes Into Canal: Miami-Dade Police

A man was killed after a high-speed shootout involving three cars, in which the car he was riding in ended up in a ditch in a southwest Miami-Dade canal Sunday.

The incident happened around 6:30 Sunday morning in the area of Southwest 268th Street and Southwest 115th Court, Miami-Dade Police said.

According to witness accounts, an Infinity carrying two passengers, a white Nissan Altima carrying two passengers, and a third vehicle were engaged in a shootout. Witnesses tell NBC 6 that the gunmen were using what looked and sounded like high-powered rifles.

After the initial exchange of gunfire, the Altima and the Infinity went speeding down Southwest 268th Street exchanging more gunfire when the Altima lost control and crashed into a ditch.

The driver of the Altima survived the shooting and crash, but the passenger, 20-year-old Wagynes Flerilien, of Homestead, was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

The passengers in the Infinity survived the shooting. Both were taken in for questioning.

"The two males from that vehicle were treated on scene by fire rescue for their injuries, and they have since been released by our homicide bureau," Miami-Dade Police spokeswoman Jennifer Capote said.

The third car remains at large, police said.

"We are urging to community to please help us in bringing forth that third vehicle,"  said Capote.
