Man Shot by Mother at NW Miami-Dade Home: Police

A man was rushed to the hospital after he was shot by his mother in northwest Miami-Dade Wednesday, officials said.

The shooting happened at a home in the 1300 block of Northwest 98th Terrace at about 10 a.m., Miami-Dade Police officials said.

The victim, 24-year-old Lance McCoy, was shot several times and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where his condition was unknown.

Police said the man was shot by his mother, but it's unknown if she was in custody or would be charged.

"Right now we are currently investigating to find out what exactly caused the domestic dispute," Miami-Dade Police Maj. Ignacio Alvarez said.

Sources told NBC 6 that a federal corrections officer lives at the home and is married to an assistant chief with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

"The parties inside the residence have been identified as Mrs. Atoya Holmes and Mr. Arthur Holmes, who are the mother and stepfather of Mr. Lance McCoy," the MDPD said in a statement. "At this time, investigators are attempting to determine all the details surrounding this incident."

A family friend said there had been an altercation at the home Tuesday night.

"From my understanding, there was a dispute last night where this son jumped on the father," Tangela Sears said.
