The Miami Police Department has identified the person shot dead in Little Haiti on Wednesday as 16-year-old Jose Velez.
The shooting occurred in the area of NE Miami Place and 58th Street. Jose was known as Chelito.
He was also known for his smile. A vigil was held in his name on Thursday.
"He was a smiling kid – never mad or sad. If you met him, you would know what we were talking about," a family member said.
