Miami Beach Man Busted in Craigslist Ticket Scheme

Alleged scammer bilked fans out of basketball, Masters ticket charges

A Miami Beach man was arrested Thursday for using Craigslist in a ticket scalping scheme that bilked sports fans out of thousands of dollars.

Michael Jacobs, 41, faces four counts of grand theft and one count of organized fraud for the alleged scheme he ran in 2010.

Miami Beach Police say Jacobs advertised tickets for sale for basketball games and the Masters golf tournament on Craigslist, which at least four different people paid over $2,300 for.

But investigators say after Jacobs received the cash through a western Union transfer, he didn't hold up his end of the deal.

Police said Jacobs confessed to the crimes and told detectives he has a gambling problem. It's possible theer are more victims of Jacobs' scam out there.
