Miami-Dade County paid tribute to the officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the community.
The 36th Annual Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial Ceremony honored the 143 officers who, since 1865, have given their lives while on duty.
"He was my rock, my councilor, the joy behind my smile and most importantly- he was my best friend,"
For some families the loss is still fresh and for others some time has passed but the sadness remains.
"That's why it's important that we honor them. When they think about their loved ones, when it's either Christmas, Thanksgiving or a birthday, they know this family here never forgot them," said officer Freddy Ramirez.
The event was also a show of appreciation to all the men and women in uniform for their selfless service.
