A Doral police sergeant was shot by another officer at a training center in the city Wednesday morning and rushed to an area hospital.

Miami-Dade Police confirmed the shooting took place at the facility located off Northwest 58th Street and 96th Avenue in Doral.

In a press conference, Doral Police Chief Herman Organvidez said the sergeant was shot in the upper torso. The officer was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition.

He was later identified as 29-year-old Sgt. Eric Fernandez, an 11-year veteran of the department.

"Everybody is shaken up, anytime an officer is shot obviously it's a heavy burden on all the officers," Organvidez said.
