Miami Mom Arrested After 6-Year-Old Son Shot by Cousin: Police

Laqayette Verlinda Dock accused of not taking son to hospital after bullet grazed his neck

The mother of a 6-year-old Miami boy who was grazed by a bullet from a gun fired by his 8-year-old cousin was arrested after she didn't take the boy to the hospital, authorities said.

Laqayette Verlinda Dock, 21, was arrested Monday on charges of child neglect causing great bodily harm and failure to report child abuse, an arrest report said.

According to the report, the boy went to school Monday and told his principal he had been shot by his cousin during spring break. Fire rescue responded to the school and took the boy to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment.

When investigators spoke with Dock, she told them the boy had been grazed on the neck on Saturday, but she didn't think the wound was severe enough for medical attention so she treated it herself, the report said.

Dock was booked into jail, where she remained held on $10,000 bond, records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
