Nearly One Year After Disappearance, Family of Missing Doral Mother, Daughter Continue Search

Family and friends are still looking for answers in the disappearance of a Doral woman and her young daughter nearly a year ago.

Liliana Moreno and her 8-year-old daughter, Daniela, vanished last year in May and haven't been heard from since. At a press conference Thursday, Moreno’s family – many who had come in from Colombia – pleaded for help in finding their loved ones.

In June 2016, a search was launched with dogs and dozens of volunteers tracking through swampy brush near Doral and in a nearby lake - but no sign of the family.

"We do continue to search. We're in constant contact with our divers, with the Miami Dade Police Department, and we do continue to expand those searches,” said MDPD Det. Chris Villano.

Police first suspected foul play following a search of Moreno’s apartment. Her purse, keys and wallet were left inside while the front door was locked and her car was in the parking lot.

Investigators say Daniela’s father, Gustavo Castano, is still a person of interest. Castano made news when he was hospitalized after stabbing himself in a parking lot just days after the disappearance was reported.

“Apparently, he said that he dropped them off somewhere along the Turnpike on Okeechobee after an argument,” said family friend Claudia Mariaca.
