Hollywood Man Killed Wife Before Being Shot By Cops: Police

What to Know

  • Police are currently investigating an officer involved shooting in Hollywood early Wednesday morning.

A man who allegedly killed his wife was injured in an officer-involved shooting in Hollywood early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The incident started when a man called 911 shortly after 3 a.m. and informed the dispatcher he had shot and killed his wife and would harm anyone who came to the house, located near 72nd Avenue between Arthur Street and Garfield Street.

Police arrived and the man barricaded himself inside before eventually coming out.

"He came out acting erratically; a confrontation ensued at which time he was shot by officers," said Hollywood Police Chief Thomas Sanchez. "This is one of the most dangerous calls that police officers respond to."

The suspect was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in stable condition. His name wasn't released. None of the officers were injured.

Authorities said they're investigating the incident as a possible suicide by cop attempt.

"The officers seemed rather shook up but they're doing OK," Broward County Police Benevolent Association President Jeff Marano said.

Crews also responded to put out a small fire at the home. Police are investigating if it was started by the suspect in an attempt to burn down the residence.

Police entered the house and found the deceased woman. Police haven't released her name.
